Year 1. 2018 - 2019
Welcome to Year 1 Spring Term
We've made a great start to the new year and our Year 1 students are already growing into the role of hard-working year 1's.
During the term ahead, our topic will be ''The Great Fire of London''. We will be exploring what happened during the Great Fire of London, how it started and how life has changed since! We will also be created artwork based on this topic.
In English, we will be looking at a range of texts including The Lion Inside. Our main focus this half term maintaining the brilliant handwriting that we have worked so hard on and introducing and into our sentences.
We are continuing to develop our addition and subtraction skills but now we are using numbers to 20. I will be teaching for mastery using concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to learning to secure fluency and reasoning skills.
In RE we will be exploring 'Families and Celebrations'.
At home there are many different ways in which you can support your child with their learning this year.
Please read with your child each night. This does not need to be the whole book as we will not be changing books daily. If you finish the book at home here are some alternative reading activities: retell the story in detail, discuss the characters, talk about your favourite part of the story, re-write the story or just re-reading the story.
Spellings will be sent home on a Friday and tested on a Wednesday. Please copy out each spelling and then use it in a sentence.
Maths -CGP books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned on Tuesday - you will find the relevant activity/page to complete typed at the top of your child's spellings.
Thank you for your continued support.
