Mrs Postlethwaite

Spring Term

The children have  started the new year off well and are looking forward to an exciting term full of lots of enrichment activities .

This term our topic is EXPLORERS. We will be learning about famous explorers such as Captain Cook and Christopher Columbus who discovered new continents and Neil Armstrong who explored space.  On a visit to the Liverpool Maritime Museum we will experience life on board a sailing ship during the time of Captain Cook. We will be finding out about the different continents and oceans that link them. We will be improving our knowledge of our local area by exploring the use of maps on a trip to the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum.

We will be reading and writing stories and recounts using descriptive language . We will be working hard on joining our handwrtiting and improving the range of punctuation we use. Some of the books we will share together are Dragon Machine by Helen Ward and Major Glad Major Dizzy by Jan Oke

In maths we will be investigating multiplication and division and how it can help us to solve problems in everyday life. We will be looking at the propertries of 3D shapes and then use this knowledge to find fractions of shapes and numbers.

Together we will be discussing how JESUS turned sadness into joy and how we can try to emulate this. We will learn about why we celebrate MASS and the different rituals associated with it.

In science we will be looking at uses of different types of materials and are looking forward to a trip to the Catalyst Museum in Runcorn. We will be investgating their properties and choosing some of them to build our own travelling machine!  We will also be closely watching our flower beds to look for signs of Spring and new life .
