Mr Merrick

Welcome to Year 3!

Mr Merrick

Welcome to Year 3 Autumn Term

We've made a great start to the new year and to our first year as juniors.

We are going to be learning about lots of exciting things and it’s a very important year in our sacramental journey.

During the term ahead, our topic with be "Stone Age to the Iron Age." We will be learning all about the Stone Age and what people did thousands of years ago. Do you know what life was like for the Stone Age people?

In English, we will be looking at a range of texts including Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman and Winter’s Child by Angela McAllister. We will also be using visual texts to stimulate our writing including animation films, apps and websites.

Our Maths learning begins this term with a Place Value focus before moving on to look at the use of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Our focus will again be teaching for mastery using concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to learning to secure fluency and reasoning skills.

Religious Education

In RE we will be exploring Jesus' teaching about The Christian Family and Mary, Mother of God. Both topics will offer children opportunities to reflect on our role within Christianity and the role of family in our lives and in our faith.

At home there are many different ways in which you can support your child with their learning this year. Each week, the homework books will have details of reinforcement activities that can be completed in the CGP revision books. There are also the Mathletics and Times Tables Rockstars apps that the children are warmly invited to use as regularly as possible. Year 3 children will also be bringing home details of their personalised spelling lists that will need to be practised using the different spelling strategies that we teach in school.

Open invitation

There will be the opportunity to meet formally during the Parent/Teacher evening in October, but in the meantime you are welcome to chat to me after school, or to make an appointment. I am here to help and I look forward to working together with you this year.

Thank you for your support
