Autumn Term 2024
At the start of the Autumn term, Year 1 will be very similar to the children's experiences in Reception. There will be whole class carpet times throughout the day, small group work with an adult, independent group work and time to learn through play. As the school year progresses, the learning will become more structured with less time learning through play.
Autumn Learning:
Our class topic is 'Little Sutton'.
In English, we will be using the text 'Beegu'. We will be predicting what will happen in the story, talking about the characters and the setting. We will also compose a sentence orally before writing it, linking graphemes to phonemes to write a label and simple sentence.
In Maths, we will focus on place value to 10 and extend this to 20. The children will also learn different strategies to add and subtract within 10 and then 20. Later in the term we will learn about 2D and 3D shapes.
In Religious Education, our topic is ‘Creation and Covenant’. We will learn about the Story of Creation and be able to retell this. We will talk about all the things that God has made and consider why we should be thankful for them. The Nicene Creed and The Our Father will be shared with the children as part of this work.
In Science, our topic is Animals and we will be learning all about different animals including humans.
In Computing we will be looking at Online Safety and pictograms.
We also have lots more exciting learning planned in PE, Forest School, Music and Art.
PE, our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Children should come to school wearing their PE kit. All earrings should be removed before the PE lesson, if your child is unable to remove their earrings independently, they must be removed before school.
