Year 2 2025 - 2026

Mrs Postlethwaite

Mrs Kane

 WELCOME TO YEAR 2

A Message From Mrs Postlethwaite and Mrs Kane .

Year 2 will be taught by Mrs Postlethwaite and Mrs Kane.

We are really excited about this year's curriculum and have planned lots of engaging and interesting units of work . Across the year we will enjoy learning about our Roman Catholic faith by enjoying reading many bible stories and discussing how they can help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

During the Autumn term, we will be building on our geographical knowledge from Year 1 when we learn about where the UK fits into the map of the world. We will be investigating how transport has changed over time and will enjoy a visit to Ellesmere Port Boat Museum to learn about the history of canal building. Our science topic will be exploring the different animal and human life cycles and what humans need to survive.

In the Spring term we will journey around the globe comparing the physical and human characteristics of the 7 continents and our history topic will look at how famous explorers such as Captain Cook and Christopher Columbus discovered different continents. We will enjoy exploring our historic past by visiting the Port of Liverpool via an exciting Mersey Ferry journey and the interactive exhibits at the Museum of Liverpool. Our science topic will be exploring the properties of different materials and how and when they can be used or changed to create useful objects for everyday life.

In the Summer term, we will enjoy a visit to Port Sunlight a local village to learn about how Lord Leverhulme, a local historical figure, was able to provide work and improved living conditions for local people. We will be comparing physical and human features of the seaside and also enjoy an amazing residential visit to Delamere Forest to explore the differences between different habitats. Our science topic will involve us experiencing the life cycles of plants and we will have lots of fun growing potatoes and other summer plants.

Across the year we will be learning to play the recorder, various percussion instruments and enjoy singing during our weekly choir lessons. We will be building our own moving vehicles, designing a delicious healthy sandwich and making a fabric fish. ICT is integral to our learning and we will use it to help research, compile and publish our own work.

You can find out more about our Year 2 curriculum this year on our Curriculum Map which is attached below.

During Autumn term, PE will be taught on a Wednesday and Friday.  Please make sure that your child comes to school in their PE kit on these day
